There is always one of those, right? When we’re trying to reach a goal, when we’re trying to talk to love ones and they can’t or refuse to understand… There is always some qualifying thing and that qualifying thing (some point being made by one or the other) stops progress. Some years ago when I first became a teacher of piano, I had a student who whenever I gave her something more challenging than she wanted to learn, would give me one of those “the thing is…” type statements.
